Youth Employment Programs and Services

There are over 200 programs and services dedicated to youth including wage subsidy programs, internship programs, and employment related services. Below are links and information on some of the general programs with additional links that will allow you to view many others.

Please note: Qualifications and application deadlines vary between programs.

Summer Career
Placements (SAC)
This program provides wage subsidies to private, public and not-for-profit employers to create career-related summer jobs for students. Application forms are available at the Bridgewater Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC) office located at 77 Dufferin St., PO Box 3100, Bridgewater, NS, B4V 3J1. Phone: (902) 527-5524
Application deadline is usually prior to March 30th.
Partners in Promoting Summer Employment (PPSE) An initiative between the Government of Canada and business associations to promote student hiring in their communities. Application forms are available at the Bridgewater Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC) office located at 77 Dufferin St., PO Box 3100, Bridgewater, NS, B4V 3J1. Phone: (902) 527-5524
Applications continually accepted.
Youth Internship Canada

This program is designed to help youth (ages 15 - 30) gain work experience and make a successful transition into the workforce. Qualifying employers receive a wage subsidy. First Nations and Inuit Summer Student Career Placement Program The program supports opportunities for career-related work experience and training to in-school First Nations and Inuit youth living on reserve or in recognized communities during the summer months. Eligible employers include the private and non-profit sector. Applications continually accepted.
Nova Scotia Employment Program for Students
(Summer 2001)
The program partners with not-for-profit organizations to create career-related summer jobs for post-secondary students.
Application deadline is usually prior to March 30th.
Cooperative Employment Program (Summer 2001) The program provides educational opportunities for post-secondary co-op students. Eligible employers include Government-funded organizations, Municipal Governments, and Non-profit organizations.
Application deadline is February 16, 2001.
